Who We Are
Arun Institute of Rural Affairs (AIRA) a frontline rural based NGO started its journey since 1986. The formation of the NGO was inspired by the devotion and social work spirit of an untimely lost village youth named “Arun” as well as the horrific experience of a survivor, the team leader and founder of AIRA from biggest tornado that hit Bandhaguda in Keonjhar district of Odisha during 1980s. Since the formation AIRA moved ahead with commitment and selfless services and we proved as key change making organization focusing on poor tribal and rural population mostly women and girls.
We envision for evolution of a society free from all sorts of discrimination and with equal rights and opportunities for all. Towards this holistic vision our mission is to organize the people, build their capacity, enhance confidence and empower them to lead a dignified life. Starting from delivery of services like health and education, we organize their capacity and skill for productive participation in social mainstream.

What We Do
01.
Community Health
Our health programmes draw from the biological, environmental, psychological, physical and medical sciences to prevent disease, disability and premature death through education-driven alongside some field action, behavior change activities.
02.
Education
Education has been regarded as the top most nation-building exercise: and hence, the thrust on our action agenda. To our belief, education is the process towards fulfilling the optimal development of children and it can enable them having a productive life. Considering the challenges faced by poor children, especially in tribal households, we took education as a mission and focus residential mode of teaching-learning for all-round development of the head, heart and the hands simultaneously.
03.
Programme on Livelihood
The state of Odisha is one of the poorest states in the entire county. Poverty is more prevalent in rural and tribal areas of the state. The tribal of the state are historically have remained poverty-stricken and impoverished. AIRA is trying to implement several programmes for the benefit of the dalits & adivasis in its operational area.
04.
Senior Citizen Programme
Countries with a large population like India have a large number of people now aged 60 years or more. The population over the age of 60 years has tripled in last 50 years in India and this increase in the elderly population is the result of changing fertility and mortality regimes over the last 40-50 years. Considering the plight of the aged people in rural and tribal areas we are providing promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services in an integrated manner.
05.
Women Empowerment
Women`s empowerment points to approaches regarding other trivialized genders in a particular political or social context. We at AIRA, act towards empowering women, mostly in the rural set ups which goes a long way in building confidence and generating skilled human resources. Such programme also act as security shield for the women victims.
06.
Youth Empowerment
Youth empowerment is a process where young people are encouraged to take charge of their lives. Our youth empowerment activities addresses the obstacles the rural youths face and accordingly we take steps to improve their access to resources and opportunities to transform their aptitude & ability as socially useful and productive persons through their values, and attitudes. Most importantly we focus on economic empowerment of youths through skill training.
